TOP TEN OF 2011!!
A VERY BEATY CHRISTMAS TO YA
Once again, we’ve reached that time of year, when me and a group of beard-stroking music gimpazoid friends try to out-niche each other in exchange of our top tens of the year.
HERE’S MINE! (DOWNLOAD HERE)
Top Ten Tracks of Twenty Eleven….
1. Burial - Street Halo (first fresh Burial material for a while… this needs loud bass on massive speakers or in headphones. Moody and lush)
2. Radiohead - Lotus Flower (Sbtrkt remix)
3. The Weekend - What You Need (Airsoft remix) (the original is actually great too, but I enjoy the extra twist this remix gives it)
4. Holy Fuck! - Red Lights (A Place To Bury Strangers remix) (APTBS haven’t released anything new for ages, but I think they’d run a great racket in production. This is the second year running one of their remixes has made it to my top ten)
5. Health - Goth Star (this is a cover of a Pictureplanes track. If i were male, I’d be totally gay for Health. If only there were a way to express being gay for something but in terms of being straight…)
6. Jamie xx and Gil Scott Heron - I’ll Take Care Of You (was really hard to pick a track from We’re New Here - one of my fav albums from this year - but I eventually decided on this one, because I really love the vague disco undertone the bassline has with Gil’s cut up vocals on it, but it’s subtle so you don’t ever really think the word disco at any point….)
7. Lanu ft Megan Washington - Roosevelt Blues (included this mostly as representative for the Tru Thoughts label, which I love, and which continues to release amazing and wonderful music)
8. Death In Vegas - My Acid Your Loft (always good when song titles are mottos of yours)(disclaimer: don’t worry kids, I don’t actually take acid in stranger’s lofts. In fact I only took acid once, by accident, and I definitely wasn’t in a loft. I don’t think. Mind you, there were parts of that night that could have been anywhere, quite frankly…)
9. Body Fossil - In Dillman’s Grove (ok, I’m totally biased because my boyfriend wrote this for me for my birthday, but it’s my list and I’ll include what I want on it. plus it’s 30 minutes of lovely meandering soundscapes and little ditties, and I love it)
10. ZZT - Zzafrika (Julio Bashmore remix) (Julio had to have something in here, plus I loved the original of this tune. winner!)

Almost rans: There were a few tunes that almost made it into the top ten… mostly I think I left them out because I’d been listening to them so much over this year I’ve gone off them all.
Yelle - S’etient Le Soleil
Adele - Rolling in the deep (Jamie XX remix / Prince Club House edit)
Jamie XX and Gil Scott Heron - Running
School of Seven Bells - Babelonia (Sepalcure Remix)
